Lisa Kervin

Director - Early Start Research, Associate Dean, Research - Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities / University Of Wollongong

Professor Lisa Kervin is a researcher in Language and Literacy at the University of Wollongong, where she directs Early Start Research. Lisa also serves as Associate Dean, Research for the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. She held the same position in the former Faculty of Social Sciences (since 2017).

Prof Kervin’s main research interests include: (1) children’s literacy practices, (2) how children use technology and understand Digital Literacies and (3) how teachers may be supported in using technology in classroom literacy experiences.

Lisa has published more than 80 journal articles and 40 book chapters and has been successful in gaining competitive internal and external research funding. She has been a Chief Investigator on seven ARC Discovery grants (DP190101256, DP190101033, DP150101240, DP140100328, DP1093826, DP0984651 and DP0771675) and one Office of Learning and Teaching grant (2016-2018).

In 2019 The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child was announced. This centre includes six Australian universities (UOW is one of these) and 33 academic and industry partner organisations from Australia, Europe, Asia and America as they embark on a seven year, transdisciplinary research program will involve experts from education, health and digital and social connectedness. Lisa co-leads the "Educated Child" research program and leads the UOW node.

Lisa has researched her own teaching and has collaborative research partnerships with teachers and students in tertiary and primary classrooms and prior-to-school settings.
